The New York JETS have 12 Draft picks coming their way this year including their most ever compensatory picks awarded to them.
The team still has a glaring need at the Cornerback position after cutting CROMARTE for cap space, but many thought he would be signed back at a lower rate due in part to his age and 2013’s play performance.
That performance was sub par but he had hip problems.
Problems that should not hamper him this year.
We watched as he signed on with the Arizona cardinals on a one year contract.
We watched again as GM-John Idzik failed to sign qualified Free Agents even letting one player leave our facility only to bang on the New York Giants door and sign with them.
That was Moneyball at its worst as we all speculated that Idzik was building through the Draft.
One could argue that he was prudent, but their are only 3 worthwhile cornerbacks available in this draft that can excel at Rex Ryan’s 3-4 press man coverage and the mock drafts have them going early.
Again with IMMEDIATE needs at the WR/TE/CB POSITIONS and the 18th & 49th picks overall, the JETS will need to Trade down to get their #1 Wide receiver.
That leaves the 49th pick overall for a cornerback.
Even if you flip position picks here you’re still in trouble for your top 2 picks.
The JETS will need to keep their 49th pick to pickup that second player WR/CB.
TE, OLB-edge rusher and O-line depth will have to be downline projects with the JETS later picks.
