August 4th 2014 set as New date as attorneys take vacations.
Goodson, who last year signed a three year deal with the JETS, has failed to show at any of the teams organized activities, including yesterday’s mandatory start of their three day.
Goodson’s short career as a New York Jet may have ended with his arrest on weapons charges.
It all began when New Jersey State police responded to a gray GMC Yukon SUV (a rental car) stopped in the center lane of Interstate 80 West in Denville in the early hours of May 17 after a tow truck driver came upon the vehicle and called 911. Officers found Jets running back Mike Goodson, 26, and Evans, 32, intoxicated. Goodson was transported to a nearby hospital and required medical attention.
Police recovered a loaded Taurus .45 caliber handgun from the locked glove box along with rounds of ammunition, including a hollow-point bullet — ammunition with strict guidelines in New Jersey.
“There was a consent form that was never signed, The contention is that (Evans) orally said, ‘Yes.’ That’s not the procedure. The reason they have the consent form is so that the person can sign it. Later when (Evans) was at the station, he claims he refused to sign the form. If you refuse to sign the form, you can’t search (without a warrant).” Ashley, Evan’s attorney told Nj.com
Their next court appearance is scheduled for June 26th.
Prosecutors charged Goodson and Evans with Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Fourth Degree Prohibited Weapons and Devices.
“There’s no warrant and there was an insufficient basis to conduct a warrantless search,” Attorney for Goodson, Fusco told NJ.com.
Goodson was suspended four games by the NFL for violating league drug policy, a ban that also forced Goodson to miss training camp and the preseason and has been battling back from ACL/MCL injuries.
Goodson has failed to maintain contact with the team, report to OTA’s and thus has been released.
The JETS added two running backs via free agency and waivers recently Chris Johnson, formerly of the Titans; and Daryl Richardson, formerly of the Rams and Goodson’s future with the team was already in Jeopardy.
