Let the rumors and speculation begin, even before the NFL‘ official dates!
Remember that the 49er’s have brought in chip Kelly.
But, it’s that time of year folks, so here’s a fast sampling of what’s being said. For your entertainment purposes only.
“I don’t want Kaepernick,” New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall said on ESPN’s First Take (via Jason Lisk of the Big Lead). “I think he’s good. My guy’s [Ryan Fitzpatrick].”

Dom Cosentino of NJ Advance Media reported “there’s no truth” to rumors that Kaepernick would like to leave the 49ers to join the New York Jets.
“No,” Cosentino’s source said. “Nothing. No idea where it came from. Random, strange article.”
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported “Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco and the Jets “are his preferred destination.”
Mehta also said the Jets are “aware and intrigued by Kaepernick’s desire to play for them.”
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported 49ers general manager Trent Baalke had a sit-down meeting with Kaepernick near the end of the season that could “prove incredibly valuable” as they look to 2016.
Per Rapoport, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock called Kelly’s hiring “one of the best things that’s happened for (Kaepernick).”
Kaepernick, is coming off an utterly forgettable 2015 season in which he started just eight games before being placed on injured reserve. Kaep is due to make $11.9 million for the 2016 season and has a $16.015 million cap hit, per Spotrac.
ESPN.com’s Bill Barnwell noted the 49ers wouldn’t necessarily need to cut Kaepernick for financial purposes, since they will have around $50 million in cap space after their rollover.
Report: Kaepernick’s Jets interest not mutual
The NY Daily News reported Tuesday that Kaepernick wants to play for the Jets. Although La Canfora reports the feeling isn’t mutual, he does note new 49ers coach Chip Kelly “has done nothing to build a relationship” with Kaepernick, and a trade “remains very likely.” Per La Canfora, Kap “has wanted out” “for quite some time,” and a divorce is “impending.” Kaepernick is 28 years old and has accounted for 67 career touchdowns. Even with his lofty contract, we suspect the 49ers could net a second-day draft pick if they get serious about shopping him.
