The Jets signed RB – Khiry Robinson (6′ – 220#) to a 1 year $1.175m contract with $80k guaranteed. This we know, but this week former coaches have shared some thoughts on the running back.
Can he be as productive as Chris Ivory, and more healthy with the Jets? Both are pickups from the Saints.
Bill Parcells, shared his thoughts about Robinson in a conversation with Saints coach Sean Payton.
Parcells compared him to Hall of Famer, Curtis Martin.
Saints Coach Sean Payton on Khiry Robinson:
“He was borderline whether he went to camp that first year,” Payton said Wednesday at the NFL owners meetings in Boca Raton, Florida. “When the pads came on, though — and I think you’ll see the same transition — you get a much different player than you thought you were getting. You thought you might be getting more of a scat back, someone who was fast in space, but I’d say he’s an extremely physical type of runner.”
Payton compared Robinson’s physical style to that of Chris Ivory who also was traded to the Jets.
Ivory gave the Jets three solid seasons before his free agency move to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Robinson suffered a broken leg last season, which factored into the Saints’ decision not to make him a tender offer as a restricted free agent. The Jets then signed him to a one-year contract.
“Khiry has versatility as a receiver,” Payton added. “I know he’s working on rehabbing the injury. You’ll get some good stuff when he’s ready to go.”
According to nola .com: a source said all parties were open to him returning.
However, Robinson tweeted a goodbye to New Orleans on last Friday afternoon.
“Been Real New Orleans, Best 3yrs of my life: thanks for helping my career get started, I came from nothing but I’ma end up Something BLESS29,” he tweeted.
Robinson is currently rehabbing from a tibia fracture sustained mid-season.
In three seasons with the Saints, he had 186 carries for 766 yards and eight touchdowns.
