Jets lose more than game to Texans

The Jets (5 and 5) lost two key players, along with any playoff hopes, in their Sunday afternoon loss to the Houston Texans.
Jets center Nick Mangold suffered cuts on his right hand severe enough to affect his snapping the ball, thus ending his day.

Jets CB Darrelle Revis, exalted ruler at cornerback in the AFC east, suffered a concussion which ended his afternoon early in the second half.

The Jets 24-17 loss to the Texans was bad enough but the injuries leave Nick Mangold’s and Darrelle Revis’ status for next Sunday’s game against the Dolphins in doubt, for at least a few days. We’ll know more on Wednesday when coach Bowles makes his post practice announcement.

Revis (diagnosed with a concussion) left the game in the third quarter after tackling Texans running back Akeem Hunt.

Revis must go through the NFL’s concussion protocol and will be closely monitored by the teams medical staff.

Revis got beat twice by Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the first half. Texans quarterback T.J. Yates (who hasn’t started since 2011) threw a deep ball to Hopkins on the first catch which saw Revis losing a step on a Hopkins hip fake, then tested him again on the second for a 61-yard touchdown.

Adding insult to injury Hopkins scored again soon after Revis exited in the second half where Yates was able to pass it over Marcus Williams head.

Center Nick Mangold left in the first half with a hand injury classified by coach Todd Bowles as lacerations. Those lacerations required stitches Bowles later revealed in his post game press conference.

Mangold was seen on the sideline, hat on, in the second half with a large wrap on his right hand.

Mangold’ stitched up cuts might impede his ability to snap the ball in practice next week.

Coach Bowles has been ardent in saying that if a player doesn’t practice, they don’t play on Sundays. Might Mangold be the exception to the rule as the Jets face division rivals the Miami dolphins who are 6 and 4 on the season.

The Jets have had coverage, execution, miscues and special teams problems since their promising 4 and 1 start to the 2015 season.

An angered Todd Bowles took to the podium after the game saying poor execution and situational awareness were a fault. Bowles added that the teams rookies need to stop playing like it. He added that he’s still committed to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick but doesn’t think he played very well.

In a side note the Jets fandom is growing impatient with wide receiver Devin Smith’s lack of growth after failing to catch a sure touchdown Sunday.
